ALICE IN WONDERLAND- NEWSTEAD ABBEY

Following the exploration of Newstead Abbey exploring the parallels between John Tennials illustrations and the stately home of Newstead abbey, I was keen to create the waistcoat design. Using the means worbla and a unique variety of primary hues I wanted to capture the style of the original illustration. Regarding the motion of my mark making I was keen to incorporate inspiration from artist Gustave klimt . Within this project, I appreciate the way in which I explored a variety of mediums including acrylic paint and looking at reverse applique . This enabled me to create a greater understanding of surface texture and line in which I brought into further projects .

many of the shapes woven into the front bodice are inspired by the texture woven into the Newstead abbey interior as seen through the swirls juxtaposed by the geometric print all of which suggest the flamboyant personality of the hatter .
